You hear in the press that buying a new build is nothing but trouble, that they’ve loads of problems and are the ‘homes from hell’… but we’ve not had any problems buying from Stewart Milne; we only wish we’d bought from them sooner. A lot of new homes are really small, but the house we’ve got is a lot more spacious than others we’d looked at. I really like the fact that it’s got a big kitchen (we can fit a six-seater table as well as a sofa in it) and that there’s a separate dining room next door. We don’t actually use it as a dining room as our kitchen’s so big; we use it as a family room instead. We’ve also got a living room, our ‘good’ room, which we like to sit in at night. It’s a place for the adults to chill out at the end of the day, away from the kids’ toys. We already lived in Lanark so we knew the area. Where we are now is slightly further out into the countryside. It’s quieter and you’ve got the views. It’s also a great place for walking the dogs. Living here has given us a different lifestyle. Our old house was much more cramped. Now we virtually live in the kitchen and have the French doors open to the garden so can watch the children playing there. It’s much more relaxed. I assumed that once you bought the house that would be it, the staff wouldn’t be interested anymore, but that’s not been the case at all. We really couldn’t praise the site manager enough; he’s been absolutely fantastic, especially on moving day when he helped us move our sofa into the living room. The sales woman as well has been absolutely amazing. We’d been having problems with our gas and electricity supplier and she helped us sort it out. We weren’t expecting that. The aftersales is really good. I would recommend Stewart Milne no question, because everything has run so smoothly. Anything they’ve told us that they’re going to do, they’ve always done it. They stick to their timescales so you know where you stand with them. That’s why I’d recommend them.
