We can easily look out of the windows of our spacious house to the central play park and swings to see our children, which is great for us. The curved street means it’s the same for other parents with children; it’s very well laid out. With the many streets and lanes that are linked together around us, we can enjoy walking our dogs through the whole estate. Having already lived on the development before buying this house, we know our neighbours quite well and everyone here is exceptionally friendly; we even have street birthday parties.

The suburban location is about 5 - 6 miles away from Aberdeen. There are good schools in the area and the secondary school is one of the best performing schools in the region, which makes it quite attractive. There’s a swimming pool, restaurants, a small shopping centre and a supermarket. It’s a generally a nice, quiet area to live in and a very easy commute into the town.

There are lots of large companies close by and as the development is about 8 miles from the centre of the city, it’s perfect for those who want to commute. Westhill town is a short distance away and it has a small shopping centre, good retail shops and a big supermarket so everything is right on your doorstep if you don’t want to go into the city itself.

It’s a very family orientated place to live and there’s a mix of different families with younger and older children here. There are good schools close by with safe paths, so older children can easily walk to school. The neighbours I’ve met have been very friendly and I feel quite comfortable here. It’s very easy to relax here at the end of the day as it is so peaceful. We enjoy the wonderful views out onto the hills of Aberdeenshire.

It’s a family friendly environment that’s quiet and full of professionals. There aren’t a lot of people living here, so it’s very safe and peaceful. The homes all have a high standard of construction and every house on the development has a good structure and an excellent size of rooms. The physical construction of the buildings looks different than other new builds because of the different materials they use on the exteriors; they are all very good quality.

Our family uses the activity centre on a regular basis and I enjoy having tea and coffee there. The schools are all very good and easily reachable, which is great for our children. There’s a pub close by and also a shopping centre for us to visit. It’s all very convenient.

We’re at the top of the hill in Broadshade, looking down on a huge valley beneath us. Most of the houses are North / South facing so we enjoy sitting out on our sunny decking in the back for breakfast or coffee in the morning, or for dinners and entertaining in the evening. It’s perfect for sitting back and enjoying the beautiful views. The tidy, manicured landscaping lends to the beauty, but it’s also functional and makes it ideal for kids.

“In our development there are three play parks that I know about, so they’ve definitely thought about families and community.”
It’s easy for families to meet each other here. Everyone is like minded and there are a lot of people here with young families. My daughter Layla has made a lot of friends as kids just knock on the door and ask if she can come out to play. People from previously built estates use the play parks here as well, so we are introduced to the wider community. Everyone we’ve met so far has been very friendly.

“I’ve been able to start teaching my daughter how to ride her bike because of how safe it is here.”
We’re in a cul-de-sac so it’s quiet here off the main road. There’s minimal traffic and I believe they are going to introduce a 20 mph speed limit as well. The road is split into two sections with a play park in the middle. This means people slow down and the children are visible. There’s also a lovely grass area that everyone uses that’s right in front of our house so we can safely let our 6 year old out in confidence.

“There is so much on our doorstep”
We’re close enough to Aberdeen, but far enough away from it. We have the convenience of shops like Costco and Tesco nearby and there’s a wonderful shopping centre in Westhill that’s only a short drive away. There’s an excellent bus service with weekend buses into Aberdeen running up to 3:00 am on a weekend and there are fantastic, safe bike routes we can use to get to the shops or to the local Costa for a coffee. I’m looking forward to using those bike routes with my daughter in the future.

Then we were overwhelmed by the fantastic design, intelligent use of space and airy feel of our home. The mezzanine, going up into the apex in the roof can only be described as “cathedral-like” so the extra space is phenomenal. The quality of the houses on the development is excellent compared to my previous experience with another developer. This is well built and solid and Stewart Milne Homes have certainly been fastidious with any problems we’ve had.

Doug is attentive; he always knocks on the door to see how things are going and we don’t have to ask to get stuff done. He is prompt and I can trust him with our key to get the work finished. I’ve had a chat and a coffee with him and I feel he really wants us to enjoy living here and to enjoy the experience of moving in and settling down; he is very customer focussed.

A great place for children and families…
I love that Berryhill at Broadshade is safe and family-friendly. There’s a big play park in the middle of the development and it’s an excellent feature. There are speed bumps on the roads and no through traffic so I have no concerns. There’s also plenty of room for the children to play with lots of space in the grounds and around our own plot.

A relaxed and social development…
Our south-facing garden is great for entertaining our family and friends; we can sit out and enjoy the sun until late in the evening and its private here because we’re not overlooked. It’s great that everyone here seems to be of a similar age with children of a similar age and that they are friendly, respectful and considerate.

Excellent quality and a great location…
There’s a good mixture of houses here and I love the contemporary look of granite, dark guttering and dark slate. Originally I did have some minor concerns as I didn’t know what the standard of finish and quality would be, but that was put to bed as soon as I saw it. The location also has all of the amenities that cater for what we need as a family in terms of education, shops, bars, restaurants, fast food, chemists, doctors and dentists. It’s very convenient.

It’s a safe and quiet development…
The community at Broadshade is very nice and there is a good mix of people here. We’re far enough out of West Hill, so there are no problems with any traffic, we don’t hear any loud noises and this enables children to play around the development in a safe manner.

There are a lot of handy amenities…
There is a bus stop near the development that takes you straight into Aberdeen as well as a Tesco and a swimming pool within a 15 minute walk. It’s great, as I love being close to the shops and public services. It’s very convenient and we don’t have to drive miles to get to the nearest shop, like I had to do with my previous home.

As first time buyers buying off plan was a little worrying. We couldn’t view the physical house and had only seen the layout on paper...

But it has worked out well and I would say that I would buy off plan again. We spent a lot of time and effort choosing our home, so the best aspect was when we got the keys and walked up to our new home and saw it for the first time.

The location suited us now and for the future The Broadshade development suited us because it was close to my place of work and we particularly wanted to be near the city. We are planning for the future and felt it would be suitable for a family.

We found helpful staff and a smooth buying process Stewart Milne’s sales representatives have been very helpful; they answered all of our questions. I would recommend them because we have had no problems and everything went smoothly.

We’d never bought a new home before, and whilst we had no concerns as such, Stewart Milne had to prove to us that it would be a positive experience...

we felt fairly neutral beforehand and were there to be convinced, and I have to say that the whole experience has been very positive.

Overall we are very satisfied with our transaction with Stewart Milne. Their customer service is very good. Jackie Macpherson, the sales advisor whom we dealt with, was very keen and willing to help. I liked that she was able to answer knowledgeably any questions we had and within the timeframe that we needed.

In fact, the whole experience, from the lead-up to introducing me to the property and walking around on the day itself was very good. Greg, the site manager, has been very good in his explanation of the house and the after-care that’s needed, as well as the services that are available to us.

Their after-sales is very good as well. I think you get value for money for the property size and for the quality of the build. I’ve got all the bedrooms I need, plus an additional study room, which is what I wanted; it suits all our requirements. In fact, I’ve been impressed with the quality of the property. There have been very few snags.

I would definitely recommend Stewart Milne because of the whole experience: the quality of the build, the site manager and the customer services team. That’s why I would recommend.
