At Stewart Milne Homes, we don't only build award-winning homes, we build communities with people in mind. With open spaces, community gardens and playparks, we shape neighbourhoods that leave a legacy and are an asset to the local area.
Our People Shaped Places ethos guides our approach to building the foundations for vibrant new communities that people are proud to call home.
We always ensure what we build has a positive impact on residents, whilst also supporting the local area. This includes creating environments that promote healthy lifestyles, enhancing green spaces and supporting local organisations such as schools, sports teams, and community groups.
To celebrate New Homes Week 2022, we’ve created a round-up of some of the wonderful initiatives we’ve recently supported across our developments.
Exploring The Great Outdoors
Our Castle Gardens development donated a selection of outdoor materials to Pencaitland Primary School, East Lothian, including cable drums and plastic pipes for the pupils to use when exploring the great outdoors, as well as high-vis vests to help keep them safe during their regular woodland walks.
At Stewart Milne Homes, we’re committed to supporting local communities. Pencaitland Primary School already had a wonderful woodland learning area that promotes outdoor learning and natural play, so we were pleased to provide some resources to help pupils enjoy the outdoors.
It’s A Dog’s Life
We build homes with the new homeowners at the forefront of mind, to create spaces that cater to modern living and create the foundations for vibrant new communities.
At Leathan Green in Portlethen, it hasn’t just been the neighbours striking up new friendships. The canine companions at the new community were the perfect ice-breaker for new neighbours.
West Highland Terrier, Angus, was one of the first dogs to move in last year and although it took him some time to warm up to the construction team, he has now become a stalwart of the local community and at least seven other furry friends now regularly join him for his walks.
For the team at Leathan Green, it has been fantastic to see the real sense of community and friendship that has developed so we provided high-vis jackets to the canine residents to keep them safe and warm on their walks.
Helping Communities Flourish
As a homebuilder, it’s vital that we respect the natural environment, while also encouraging residents to get together outdoors to create thriving communities.
Our recent support for Danderhall Primary School and local gardening club, the Danderhall & District Guerrilla Gardeners had exactly that in mind. The group is working alongside the school to take pupils outdoors each week, in a bid to encourage them to get green fingered and engage them in reviving and protecting local greenspaces.
We donated £1,000 to the school for the purchase of starter gardening packs for pupils, wildlife habitats and high-vis jackets to enhance their outdoor learning and natural play experiences.
Our new Shawfair development nestled in the village of Danderhall, Midlothian will create 115 homes for the growing neighbourhood, and we are looking forward to seeing the new community flourish.
Supporting Girls’ Football
We were thrilled to kick of 2022 by formalising our sponsorship of the Grampian Athletic U12 Football Team which trains in Cove, nearby our Charleston development. Not only that, but we are also officially supporting talented Alford youngster, Holly Daniel (14), who has been selected as a player for the Scottish Schools’ Football Association’s U15 International Team.
Holly is the only representative from north-east Scotland to play in the team and will now go on to train with other young female players from across the country, ahead of competitive matches.
It’s incredibly important that we build foundations for people to lead healthy lifestyles and knowing the positive impact that participating in local sports groups such as these can have, we’ll be cheering the Grampian Athletic team and Holly Daniel on from the side lines.
